I can claim no super hero acts of kindness today; not that I usually could anyway. My habit is to plod along with my eyes on the tasks before me and notice, sometimes I notice, opportunities to be kind, small graces. In that context, my greatest act of kindness today is that I said “come on in” to Giada, wet and dirty though she was, because it was dinnertime and she would be heartbroken to be left out. This endless cycle of dirt tracking and floor cleaning defines my day, it defines my life which is full, very full, with animals. Consciously choosing a kind gesture keeps me humble about my role in this: I am not lord and master, I am the floor sweeper.
